Introduction

The Sindh Governor House is the official residence of the Governor of Sindh, located in Karachi. This historic building, dating back to the British colonial era, serves as both a residence and the venue for official provincial and federal functions. It symbolizes the presence of the federation in the province and is often used for hosting dignitaries and conducting high-level meetings.

The Governor of Sindh is appointed by the President of Pakistan under Article 101 of the Constitution. As the ceremonial head of the province, the Governor represents the federation and performs duties as laid down in the Constitution. The real executive authority rests with the Chief Minister and the provincial cabinet. However, the Governor has important roles such as summoning and dissolving the provincial assembly (on advice), granting assent to bills, and administering oaths to various provincial officeholders.

The main functions of the Governor include:

Giving assent to laws passed by the Sindh Assembly.

Summoning, proroguing, or dissolving the provincial assembly (on the advice of the Chief Minister).

Appointing the Chief Minister and facilitating the formation of government.

Acting as Chancellor of public sector universities in Sindh.

Representing the province in official capacities and liaising with the federal government.

Hearing appeals against decisions made by the Provincial Ombudsman under the relevant laws.
